STRUCTURE
“Despot” (clergyman), who came to his birthplace Cunda which was then ruled by Greece, built this building known as Despot Evi in 1862, using the donations given by the Greek people with joy on the day Greece became an independent country.

OTTOMANS
After the death of Despot, the Ottoman Empire purchased the Despot Evi from the Sine Church and began to use it as a Government Building.

DURING AND AFTER
THE REPUBLICInitially used as an “orphanage”, the structure continued to serve both as a primary school and orphanage by the Turks who came over through the population exchange after the victory in the War of Independence.

When the orphanage was relocated to its new building, the Despot Evi was abandoned, and the ruined building which suffered from earthquakes, fires and looting over the years has been deformed due to the inappropriate interventions carried out on the original structure in the period it was used as an orphanage and primary school.

Av Zamani. The abandoned building was the main scene for this film, despite all unfavourable conditions and its bad shape. This proves how grandiose Cunda Callisto Despot Evi is, even in its ruined state.
2015
RESTORATION
After the abandoned and ruined building was rented from the Ministry of Culture in 2015, we designed Despot Evi as a hotel with a new organization scheme, without damaging the original texture of this historically symbolic structure.
2019
PRESENT DAY
By 2019, we completed the restoration works and revived the building back to life in the Island of Cunda, with its new look and identity.
